Two individuals with a passion for excellence and decades of home building experience and a desire for fine craftsmanship.

  • Founder

Fairbanks Homes was founded by Mark Mohney, a leader in business and technology, and Erik Barsch, a forerunner of Denver’s luxury millwork trade and founder of Barsch Woodworks. The two visionaries crossed paths when Mark commissioned Barsch Woodworks for the millwork package of an extensive renovation of his family’s historic home. Their collaboration developed into a deep friendship and shared purpose:  to orchestrate the building of sanctuaries.  Homes that are not just structures but highly crafted expressions of their client’s character and imagination, crafted with an uncomplicated elegance and built to stand the test of time.

From the halls of academia to the forefront of energy innovation, Mark's career has been marked by distinctive achievements. His unique blend of scientific discipline and engineering prowess propelled him into a world where he helped shape the future of energy, leading significant projects that spanned continents.  His relentless pursuit of innovation saw him at the crossroads of technology and business, where he forged partnerships with industry leaders and crafted cutting-edge solutions that redefined the energy landscape. His journey through corporate environments was marked by a series of groundbreaking achievements that left an indelible mark on the business world.

With a vision to revolutionize commercial business practices, Mark established a management consulting firm that became synonymous with innovation. His firm's groundbreaking work in process modeling and automation set a new standard for solving complex business challenges, earning him a reputation as an expert of business process transformation.

Mark's expertise caught the eye of a Fortune 20 technology company, leading him to oversee a division that became the gold standard in technology implementation. Under his leadership, hand-selected teams delivered solutions that not only met but exceeded the expectations of industry leaders, cementing his legacy as a model for technological excellence.

An attempt at retirement led Mark to the historic heart of Denver, where a home renovation project rekindled his passion for design and excellence. This experience, coupled with his extensive background inspired him to work with highly disciplined build teams to craft some of Denver's most beautiful homes. The launch of his and Erik’s new venture marks the apex of their respective journeys and a devotion to ensuring a rewarding experience for their clients. It is a testament to an unwavering commitment to excellence and the art of homebuilding, and the passion, innovation and quality that defines Fairbanks Homes.

  • Founder

Erik Barsch, a native of Houston, Texas, discovered his passion for the arts and the joy of creating something with his own hands at a young age. Fueled by an unrelenting work ethic, he launched his first business venture at the age of 12, mowing lawns and honing his entrepreneurial skills. The thrill of accomplishment and the satisfaction of his customers set the stage for his future endeavors.

At 17, Erik's artistic talents blossomed as he apprenticed in home interior trim. He reveled in the work, delighting in the creation of beautiful, tangible designs for his clients. Driven by an unrelenting desire to be the best, he obsessed over every detail, visualized his clients' goals, and optimized efficiencies, once again triggered the desire to start his own business.

Inspired by this desire and the perseverance and determination of self-taught artisans, Erik launched his own interior carpentry venture at the age of 23, catering to the luxury home market in Highland Park, Texas. This venture allowed him to master the business side of entrepreneurship while refining his skills as a designer. In his own words, Erik "found a new challenge to better understand space, lines, and scale and their relationship to art. Anyone can make sawdust, I wanted to make extraordinary."

By 2009, Erik had established himself as a highly respected and sought-after artisan in Denver, Colorado, plying his trade in the city's most affluent communities. In 2010, he founded Barsch Woodworks, the first company of its kind to offer an all-inclusive interior trim service and leverage 3D technology for advanced modeling. Erik assembled a team of gifted craftspeople, consulting with clients and their architects on budget planning, millwork design and procurement, onsite management, and field verifications.

Today, Erik and his partner Mark Mohney have launched Fairbanks Homes, combining their collective experiences to provide their clients with a unique and satisfying home building experience. For Erik and Mark, every detail counts, and they are committed to setting a new standard for the industry. They work closely with their clients to bring their vision to life, making the building process an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

Erik lives in Denver with his wife and their treasured canine friend, Lucy. He enjoys music, the arts, tinkering with cars and motorcycles, and above all, bringing joy to the building process and elevating the client experience.
